| Abstract: | In the last two decades, West Bengal’s political scenario has undergone significant political and economic change. The three-and-a-half-decade-long stable regime of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) created a political structure that has been termed the ‘Party Society’ (Bhattacharyay, 2016). The defeat of the CPM has sometimes been taken to mean the end of party society. This thesis examines this contention. Through qualitative empirical studies in two villages of West Bengal, it tracks the occupational transformation that has been taking place in West Bengal. |
